Course Calendar

We do not run a course calendar so the dates for all modules are completely flexible and because of our small class sizes, can be arranged to suit your diary.

Course modules

Our standard course modules are listed below but it doesn’t stop there. We can help you to develop your skills as a curtain maker by teaching you about setting up your workroom and keeping the right amount of stock. What equipment you will need and how to provide the best lighting for your work space. How to avoid making mistakes when calculating and ordering fabric. We can also help you with measuring, ordering and fitting a variety of tracks and poles, How to manage your curtain making business and manage your work flow. Please contact us for more details if you require additional training that is not listed under the standard modules.

Standard 5 day course                                  5 day module

This course is recommended for those who want to combine the basic elements of curtain design and make up and will take you through a variety of machining and hand crafted techniques required to produce high quality window treatments aimed at the top end of the market.

This basic course combines the 3 days curtain making module, the 1 day roman blind module and the 1 day soft pelmet module and we recommend that these modules are completed before moving on to the other course elements.

Individual course modules are as follows

 Curtain making                                            3 day module

You will learn how to design your curtains and how to calculate fabric requirements for plain and patterned fabric, setting out pleats on plain fabrics, pleating by design on patterned fabrics and joining face fabric and linings.  In this module you will make 2 hand pleated, lined and interlined curtains, one in plain fabric and a patterned fabric sample which you will pleat according to the pattern with pleats of your choice.
You will also learn about contrast edgings, braid, rope and trimmings.

Curtain Making Courses 
 Curtains for arched windows                   1 day module

You will learn how to make patterns for roman and gothic arches, make an arched curtain, hang your curtain and about Italian stringing.
Curtains for Arched Windows 

Roman Blinds                                                 1 day module

You will learn how to design plain and cascading folds in roman blinds and you will  make an interlined roman blind. 

Roman Blind Making Courses 

Soft pelmet                                                      1 day module

You will learn how to work with canvas as a core fabric and you will make a soft pelmet with a canvas core 

Soft Pelmet Making Courses 

Upholstered pelmet                                      1 day module

You will learn how to work with wood as a core material and you will make an upholstered pelmet with plywood, interlining and face fabric 

Upholstered Pelmet Making Courses 

Tie backs                                                         1 day module

You will learn how to take measurements for the tieback embrace, how to adjust and shorten rope tiebacks, tieback designs and you will make two tiebacks 

Tie Back Making Courses 

Valances                                                          2 day module

You will learn how to design pleats for plain and patterned fabric and you will make a pleated valance and a hand pencil pleated smocked valance.

Valance Making Courses

Swags and tails, swagged valances and scarf drapery   5 day module

You will learn how to cut and drape fabric for swags and tails and scarf drapery. How to cut your own patterns for swags and tails and swaged valances and how to make interlined swags, swaged valances, tails, trumpets, rosettes and how to apply braids and decoration.

Tuition fees

Standard course fees

Tuition fees are £98.00 per day if you are happy to attend a course set for two people.

Personal one to one training

If you would like your training to be tailored exclusively to your individual requirements why not take advantage of our special offer of individual one to one training for the whole of your course for just £25 extra per day.

Weekend training

A special arrangement fee of £25 per day is payable for courses which take place on weekends

Deposit payable

A non refundable deposit of  £25.00  per day is payable to secure your booking and the remaining tuition fee is payable 28 days prior to attending.

Attendance times and facilities
Courses run Monday to Friday and by special arrangement at the weekends.

We work from 9am to 5.30pm but we are always happy for courses to run later if you need extra training or you need to finish your work samples.

Tea and coffee and a light lunch will be provided.
